上海大学外国语学院立足为上海地区培养复合型和应用型的外语高级专门人才,学院设有英语系、日语系、大学外语教学部、研究生公共外语教学部和成人教育培训部,现有外国语言学和应用语言学、英语语言文学两个硕士点与英语、日语两个专业。学院承担了本院近800名本科生的外语教学任务和全校非外语类专业在职研究生学生的英语、日语、德语、法语、韩国语、俄语等公共外语教学任务。
学院现有教师近200名,其中高级职称教师约占教师总数的30%。
学院设有外国通俗文学研究中心、上海大学翻译研究中心、上海大学东亚研究中心和上海大学英美文学研究中心,主编应用外语核心期刊《上海翻译》(原名《上海科技翻译》)。
在国家教育部举办的英语在职研究生专业四、八级(TEM4、8)和日语专业四、八级(NSS4、8)统考中,英语系和日语系学生的通过率均达到A级院系的标准。另外在历年由国际交流基金和日本国际教育学会共同举办的日本语能力测试中,日语系学生的合格率在98%以上。
学院注重加强对外的联系与交流,是全国十八所外语高校协作理事会理事单位,与美、日、芬兰等高校建立了合作交流关系,长期与美国纽约市立大学、英国利兹大学、日本龙谷大学、京都大学等开展了稳定的师生互访、讲学和教学观摩活动。
Briefing on School of Foreign Languages, Shanghai University
School of Foreign Languages, Shanghai University aims at training qualified personnel of foreign languages characteristic of inter-disciplinary and applied abilities who are fit for the social and economic development of Shanghai Municipality. The School, composed of the English Department, the Applied English Department and the Japanese Department, has about 800 undergraduates majoring in English and Japanese and offers courses in English, Japanese, German and other foreign languages for more than 20 thousand non-foreign language majors ( including undergraduates, master and doctoral candidates) on campus. In addition, it is authorized to confer master degrees in linguistics and applied linguistics as well as in the English language and literature.
The School has about 200 teaching staff, among whom 30% are professors and associate professors. It has three affiliated research centers: Popular Foreign Literature Research Center, Translation Research Center and East Asia Research Center, It is accredited to edit Shanghai Journal of Translators for Science and Technology, one of the core academic journals in foreign language research in China.
In both Band Four and Band Eight Tests for English Majors organized by the State Education Commission, the English majors have reached the standards set for the nation-wide Grade A colleges and departments of foreign languages in the past ten successive years. In each of the proficiency tests jointly sponsored by China International Exchange Foundation and Japan International Education Society, over 98% of the Japanese majors have passed the test all these years.
We also attach importance to the exchanges with other universities at home and abroad. The School is an executive member of China Foreign Languages College and University Coordination Council. We have established inter-collegiate ties with the universities in the United States, Japan and Finland and the long-term cooperative programs have been effectively undergoing in academic studies, language teaching and learning as well as exchanges of teachers and students with City University of New York, Japan’s Ryukoku University and Kyoto University.
